As Chief Executive I have been asked by the Management Board to write to you all as they believe as NPTA members you should be aware of the very worrying situation the NPTA has encountered.

This has all resulted from a CEPA document entitled ROMA PROTOCOL which purports to be the considered views of the European Pest Control Industry and the professional Associations. How can this be as until mid April your Association didn't even know the document existed?

CEPA as you may know stands for the Confederation of European Pest Control Associations and on 3rd April 2008 this same organisation presented to a Rome Conference (an A4 double sided sheet) a fully printed Protocol Document.

The document was written by two CEPA members, the Italian Pest Control Association known as ANID and the British Pest Control Association, the BPCA. As CEPA only allow one pest control association from each country to be a member, how can this be a representation of the industry, as it appears no other interested body or the industry itself has been consulted on this very important matter. A matter that will govern the workings of every professional pest control technician in the UK should this document become a reality and in turn legislation. We certainly had no knowledge here at NPTA House nor has any consultation whatsoever ever taken place with this Association, hence our certain concern.

Additional Information

It is believed you should be also made aware that since the creation of the NPTA in June 1993 both letters and emails to various officers at CEPA have been ignored and never replied to. How can only one Association represent the whole of the UK Pest Control Industry? As you know full well with our growing number of pest control servicing companies we are certainly a body to be reckoned with here in the United Kingdom.

Certainly as a professional membership Association we have always believed in consultation with our members and for the past 2 years have joined with similar interested bodies in the UK to form an Alliance.

We believe that you and your fellow Pest Control Technicians may have some views that you wish to express

a. regarding what appears to be the complete lack of consultation

b. regarding the general contents and aims of the Roma Protocol

c. imposed certification to operate as a pest control company or individual

May we ask you to express these views in the form below. You will need to add your name and membership number in order to do this. Non members wishing to express their views, please contact NPTA House.

This way we can tell the UK Pest Control Industry we have consulted with our membership.

John Davison
Chief Executive
