NPTA Simplifies Support for Armed Forces Veterans
Entering Pest Management
The National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA) has simplified its support package for Armed Forces veterans and service leavers entering the pest management industry.
As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the NPTA is committed to helping veterans build rewarding civilian careers whilst supporting members looking to recruit talented individuals with proven skills, professionalism and experience.
Over the past year, we’ve spoken with members about the support available and received some valuable feedback. While the principle behind the original offer was welcomed, the process itself was seen as overly complicated.
We’ve listened.
The result is a much simpler approach that focuses on what matters most: helping veterans gain the qualifications needed to succeed in pest management.
A Straightforward Training Pathway
Under the revised scheme, NPTA Servicing and Accredited Members who employ an Armed Forces veteran or service leaver can access support towards the RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management.
Members contribute just £300 + VAT, with the NPTA covering the remaining training costs.
The process is simple:
-
-
- Select an upcoming RSPH Level 2 course
- Book using the Armed Forces Veteran option
- Provide evidence of veteran or service leaver status
- Attend the course and begin the journey towards qualification
-
Why Veterans?
The skills developed through military service align closely with those needed in professional pest management.
Veterans often bring:
-
-
- Leadership and teamwork
- Discipline and reliability
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Adaptability
- Health and safety awareness
- Customer service skills
- A commitment to professional development
-
These qualities can help businesses develop capable technicians whilst providing veterans with long-term career opportunities.
Recruitment Support Available
The NPTA continues to encourage members to explore recruitment opportunities through both the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Armed Forces Champion network.
Both organisations help employers connect with service leavers and veterans seeking civilian careers, creating an excellent opportunity for pest management businesses to access a highly skilled talent pool.
Importantly, the support package is available regardless of how a veteran joins your business. Whether recruited through CTP, DWP, Jobcentre Plus, a recruitment agency, direct application or referral, the support remains available provided the eligibility requirements are met.
Listening to Members
Kevin Lawrenson, Chief Executive Officer of the NPTA, said:
“The feedback from members was clear. They wanted the support to be easier to understand and easier to access. We’ve taken that on board and simplified the offer significantly. Our goal remains the same: to support Armed Forces veterans as they transition into pest management whilst helping members recruit and develop talented individuals who can become the next generation of pest control professionals.”
