Building for the Long Term in Pest Control
Mark Camilleri, Wynyard Pest Control
My name is Mark Camilleri, and earlier this year I acquired Wynyard Pest Control, a well-respected commercial pest control business based in the North East of England.
Like many within the NPTA community, I have a huge amount of respect for what owner-managed pest control businesses represent. Behind most successful firms are years — often decades — of hard work, early mornings, long hours, customer relationships, and a reputation built carefully over time.
That legacy matters.
One of the reasons I was attracted to Wynyard Pest Control was precisely because the owners had built a strong, reputable business with long-standing commercial relationships, recurring contract revenue, and an excellent service reputation across the region.
Importantly, my approach to acquisition is not about stripping businesses apart or replacing the people who built them.
It is the opposite.
My objective is to preserve the reputation, customer relationships, and operational standards that existing owners have spent years creating. That also means retaining and investing in staff wherever possible. At Wynyard, we have focused on continuity for both employees and customers, whilst continuing to invest in training, systems, compliance, and long-term growth.
I believe the pest control industry remains one of the strongest service sectors in the UK. It is relationship-driven, operationally specialised, and built on trust. As the industry evolves, I also believe there is a growing opportunity for independent businesses to partner together, share best practices, improve operational resilience, and create stronger long-term platforms without losing the local reputation that made them successful in the first place.
As part of this, I am always happy to speak confidentially with other business owners within the industry — whether that is simply to exchange ideas, discuss growth strategies, explore partnerships, or in some cases discuss succession planning and acquisitions for owners considering retirement or a future exit.
I fully appreciate that selling a business is often deeply personal. For many owners, it represents a lifetime of work. Any acquisition therefore has to be approached with integrity, transparency, and respect for the people involved.
The NPTA community plays an important role in maintaining standards and professionalism across the industry, and I look forward to building relationships with more members over the coming years.
If anyone within the community would like to connect, I would be delighted to have a conversation.
