Careers in Pest Control
Opening doors through partnership
On Thursday 24th April, we delivered another joint careers webinar alongside Syngenta and RSPH, working closely with DWP Work Coaches and job seekers to showcase what pest control can offer as a profession.
This continues to be an important area of focus for the NPTA. If we are serious about the long-term future of our industry, we need to make it easier for people to understand what we do, how they can get started, and where a career in pest control can take them.
During the session, we spent time breaking down the reality of the role. Pest control is often misunderstood, but as we discussed, it is a profession built on responsibility, technical knowledge and problem-solving, with a direct impact on public health, food safety and environmental protection.
We also talked through the skills needed to succeed. Technical training is essential, but it is only part of the picture. The best technicians are those who can communicate effectively, build trust with customers and approach each job with professionalism and attention to detail.
A key part of the webinar focused on how people enter the industry. We outlined the training routes available, the qualifications that support progression and the different pathways individuals can follow as they develop. Importantly, we reinforced that this is not just an entry-level opportunity. It is a career with genuine long-term prospects, whether that is moving into specialist roles, management or even running your own business.
We also introduced the NPTA’s developing Careers Hub, which will play a central role in supporting this work. The aim is simple: to give anyone considering pest control clear, practical information in one place. From real career stories and day-to-day insights to training routes and opportunities for young people and career changers, the hub is being built to remove uncertainty and open doors into the profession.
Our collaboration with DWP is a key part of this. By creating structured pathways through webinars, training opportunities and work placements, we are helping to connect employers with individuals who are motivated, informed and ready to build a career.
This is about more than recruitment. It is about raising standards, strengthening the profession and ensuring we continue to attract the right people into the industry.
We can keep doing all this good stuff but we need your help!!!
If you are thinking about a career in pest control, now is the time to explore what is available. You can view current vacancies via the RSPH careers page and access further guidance through the NPTA Careers Hub.
If you are looking to recruit, we need your help.
To build real momentum behind this initiative, we are encouraging all members to share their current vacancies with us. The more opportunities we can showcase, the stronger the pathway becomes for individuals considering a career in our industry.
Vacancies can be promoted through the NPTA Careers Hub and shared with our partners, including DWP, helping you reach a wider pool of engaged and motivated candidates.
There is no cost to advertise your roles.
