Accredited membership (not just a badge of honour)
What it means to you as a member of the NPTA
Duncan Bosomworth, NPTA Technical Manager
There are a growing number of our members asking about becoming an accredited member, what it involves and what it can bring to them as a company.
In short it shows that you have attained a significant level of professionalism within the industry and demonstrates your commitment to the highest standards of pest control and business practices.
Your current and potential customers can see that your systems of work copy that of much larger organisations who share the same membership criteria and audit process enabling you to compete for business at a similar level.
Potential clients need to be assured that you follow the same safe procedures, are fully qualified and operate in much the same way as much larger companies thus giving peace of mind.
What it can do is put you above other rival companies who haven’t got accredited status. Potential customers searching on our “Find a Pest Controller Near Me” portal will find you at the top of the list of companies in the area. Some potential customers will only take on pest control companies that are “accredited” providing you with an extended portfolio of potential clients that would otherwise be out of reach.
If you aren’t familiar with the standards required to operate at the level of an accredited member do not worry. Mark and I will take you through the process.
We have members that are sole traders who are accredited and national companies who share the same certificate of excellence.
All NPTA members benefit from a strong core package of technical support, training access, mentoring, and business support. Accredited membership builds on this foundation by adding formal independent auditing, enhanced visibility, recognised standards alignment, and additional business-facing benefits designed to help you win more work and demonstrate verified professionalism.

We will soon be auditing accredited members to EN16636 standards, again nothing to be concerned about as we will take you through the process if required, this internationally recognised standard should ensure even more doors open to you.
Health and safety systems are reviewed as well as company policies, training, compliance, COSHH and RAMS, chemical stores, vehicles, PPE and waste as well as managing state of service and service delivery. Where additional measures are required, we work with you to bring you to the level of being an accredited member. There is no pressure for you to pass the process on the first visit, anything needing remedial action is discussed and assistance is provided to ensure compliance.
Ultimately, accredited membership is not about catching businesses out or creating unnecessary barriers. It is about supporting pest control companies of all sizes to operate at the highest professional standard, with confidence in their systems, their people, and their service delivery.
Whether you are a sole trader or part of a national organisation, the process is collaborative, supportive, and designed to help you succeed. If accredited membership is something you are considering, we are here to guide you every step of the way
