Recruitment Update – Building Momentum Across the Industry
Recruitment remains one of the most consistent challenges raised by members, particularly when it comes to attracting new people into the industry and competing for experienced technicians in a tight labour market.
In response, recruitment continues to be a key focus for the National Pest Technicians Association (NPTA). Over recent months, we have been making steady progress in developing practical tools, partnerships and recruitment routes that support members in reaching new audiences and strengthening the future pest control workforce.
So what are we up to..
Careers Hub Progress
Work is ongoing on the NPTA Careers Hub, which is being developed as a central resource to showcase pest control as a skilled, professional and long-term career. The hub will bring together career pathways, employer resources and targeted recruitment routes, helping both new entrants and career changers better understand the opportunities available across the sector.
This work forms part of our wider commitment to raising awareness of pest control as a profession and supporting members with long-term workforce development.
Working with DWP and CTP
We have been working closely with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), delivering a series of recruitment webinars aimed at Jobcentre Plus work coaches and job Seekers.
These sessions focus on improving understanding of the pest control industry, the roles available and the skills required, helping work coaches confidently promote pest control as a viable career option to jobseekers.
Further webinars are already planned, including another session scheduled for March, as we continue to build momentum and strengthen this relationship.
Alongside this, we are also engaging with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to support service leavers transitioning into civilian employment. This work complements our Armed Forces recruitment pathway and helps raise awareness of pest control as a structured, skilled and long-term career option for those leaving the Armed Forces.
In parallel with this activity, the NPTA is developing a scheme designed to add additional value for pest control companies recruiting via DWP and Armed Forces pathways. This work is ongoing, and more details will be shared with members once the framework has been finalised.
Increasing Visibility of Member Vacancies
To help members reach the widest possible audience when recruiting, we continue to promote three key routes for advertising pest control vacancies:
- Advertising vacancies directly through the NPTA website, ensuring roles are visible to individuals actively interested in the industry
https://www.npta.org.uk/submit-a-job-vacancy-advert/ - Recruiting from the Armed Forces, supporting service leavers into pest control careers and strengthening workforce diversity
https://www.npta.org.uk/recruiting-from-the-armed-forces/ - Using DWP Find a Job, the Government’s national recruitment platform, to reach a broader pool of jobseekers across the UK

Member Benefit – Recruitment Advertising Support
Members can also take advantage of a new recruitment-focused member benefit designed to help increase the reach and effectiveness of job adverts. This support helps members promote vacancies more clearly and consistently, extending visibility beyond individual company networks.
A full overview of this benefit is available here:

Recruitment remains a shared challenge across the industry, and the NPTA will continue to invest time and resource into practical initiatives that support members and strengthen the future pest control workforce.
