NPTA Member Technical Support
By Mark Wenman, NPTA Technical Manager

Our fantastic industry gives us lots of conundrums and tricky complexities where multiple solutions can be a potential option within IPM.
Getting a ‘second opinion’ gives us the confidence to proceed, or it can suggest alternative options or even advise us not to continue on that path. We can use this knowledge in the future and hopefully pass this on to others in our company, or even wider contacts.
Duncan and I agree that this is one of the best parts of our role in technical and we think that it’s a strength of the NPTA. We especially love taking a technical query through to the end solution- a very happy end customer, and NPTA member.
I want to share one example of this.
Paul Bridge of c2cPestcontrol has a successful company, with strengths in bird management and honey bee removal. I met Paul and David (specialist technician) on a bird management course that I ran in Bury. They promote continuous learning and wanted to go deeper into any new techniques and bird deterrent systems.
Paul contacted me again when they were asked to propose a solution for a high profile redevelopment that needed an aesthetic and robust integrated bird management solution. Paul wanted to look at the possibility of the aesthetic electric track bird deterrent system and bird gel, plus how to elevate the rear yard net over air handling units supported off of a very low perimeter fence. We discussed the finer detail and agreed the viability which is so important. The materials requirement was confirmed between us and the customer accepted the proposal.
As we know, practical training on a new technique or system is the only way to confidently complete a key project. Therefore, I partnered up with Paul and David on site and completed the system training and solution guidance. They kindly said that this gave them confidence to complete the installation over the rest of the week and overcome the obstacles that a live site can potentially give.
The installation photos definitely show the skills and confidence of David and Paul.
